Shawn owns and runs his own garlic farm called Good Day Garlic. He loves spending time on snowy mountains in the winter and on blooming farm fields in the summer.
In 2009, Shawn had an opportunity to start a backyard community garden at a friend’s house. This is where Shawn’s love of urban farming developed and where he familiarized himself with a wide variety of crops and processes. As a grade 3 teacher in Toronto, Shawn would bring his students to visit this garden to plant garlic. More recently, he joined an organic collective in Sutton, Ontario where Good Day Garlic thrives.
His teaching career has come full circle, as he is now a STEM teacher with a focus on agriculture. Shawn is also very proud of his fluorescent green thumbs!
Daniel - also known as Ocean - began his urban gardening hobby in 2016 when Shawn coached him on creating his own urban farm. After years of practice, Ocean has developed into a self-proclaimed pepper expert. His urban farm focuses primarily on different varieties of hot peppers, which he uses for oils, sauces and dry rubs.
Ocean's passion for gardening and sustainable living has been inspired by Stephen Brooks, the Founder of a permaculture farm and education centre called Puntamona.org.
Ocean's family has been involved in the fresh produce industry since the 1930's in Kensington market. Ocean also uses his urban farm as a teaching tool for his three young boys, who all love to get involved in the process.
